FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 10, 2023; Thornton, CO: Today The Spot, based out of Boulder, CO, announced the completion of a purchase agreement to acquire a new climbing gym in Thornton. Previously branded ROCK’n & JAM’n, this new location expands The Spot’s footprint in the Front Range to five facilities, and will now be called The Spot Thornton.

Founded in 2002, The Spot pioneered the first commercial dedicated bouldering facility in the US. Since then, The Spot has offered one of the highest concentrations of terrain and programming for members, some of the biggest climbing events in the country, and the first pay-what-you-can membership model in the Front Range. With this acquisition, The Spot will be the first chain of climbing gyms to serve Boulder, Denver, Golden, Louisville, and Thornton.

The Thornton gym adds another 9,500 square feet of climbing terrain, including an impressive 40-foot lead wall, to The Spot network.

“I had the honor of climbing at this gym when it first made its debut back in the day as a ground-breaking facility on the Front Range and have always been impressed and inspired by the crew at R&J over these decades,” said Dan Howley, founder and CEO of The Spot. “As with all of our facilities, The Spot is deeply committed to hosting a welcoming, all-inclusive environment that provides our clients with the highest quality routesetting, customer service, community, and programs.”

When asked about the acquisition, Adrian Parker of ROCK’n & JAM’n said, “We are very proud to announce that The Spot has acquired our Thornton location and added our beautiful walls to The Spot family. With their resources and experience, we can sleep well knowing our wonderful members will not only be taken care of, they will now have access to so much more than we could possibly offer..”

Current members of The Spot will feel the benefits of this expansion immediately as their membership gains access to an additional climbing gym (now the second Spot gym with ropes). The Spot Thornton will be closed from August 20-27 for facility improvements, and then will reopen to the public on Monday, August 28. A grand re-opening celebration will be held on Saturday, October 7.

About The Spot: The Spot was the first bouldering gym in the US. The original Boulder facility has hosted more USA Bouldering Nationals and other pro-level competitions than any other gym. The Spot is known for world-class routesetting and also a warm, encouraging community of climbers.
