Binghamton, NY – The Pad Climbing, a California-based climbing gym company, is excited to announce the opening of its newest location in Binghamton, New York, on January 5, 2025. This new addition reflects The Pad’s dedication to fostering inclusive and dynamic climbing communities, while also marking a personal milestone for the company’s leadership.
The gym will initially open daily from 12 PM to 7 PM for visitors, with members enjoying 24/7 access to the facility. To celebrate, a Grand Opening Event featuring free climbing and fun games for all ages and abilities is scheduled for January 25, 2025.
Combining Legacy with Community Building
“The Pad Binghamton is a special project for us, combining our mission of building strong climbing communities with a personal connection to the area,” said Kristin Horowitz, CEO of The Pad Climbing. “My family has deep roots in Binghamton, and this project reflects our desire to honor that legacy while offering something meaningful to the community.”
The Horowitz family recently relocated to Binghamton to oversee the project, bringing their expertise and passion to the region. “We’re committed to making this gym a lasting part of the Binghamton community. The support we’ve received—from local residents and from connections within our network—has been nothing short of incredible,” Horowitz said.
This expansion builds on The Pad’s history of growth from humble beginnings. “We started as a grassroots gym in a small storage unit and evolved into the country’s first nonprofit bouldering gym,” Horowitz shared. “With Binghamton, we’re bringing that same spirit while offering a state-of-the-art climbing experience.”

Climb4Community: Strengthening Connections
The Pad Climbing is eager to bring its Climb4Community initiative to Binghamton. “C4C makes climbing accessible to everyone while strengthening ties with the local community,” said Horowitz. “We’re proud to offer memberships for those facing barriers and to support nonprofits through fundraisers and group hosting opportunities.
