Mike brings an incredible depth of experience in the climbing and route setting world. Having started climbing in 1998 and setting routes since 2001, he has an impressive track record, including setting 28 National Championships, 6 World Cups, and nearly 100 youth events. His expertise extends beyond setting, as he also owned a volume company from 2019 to 2022.
Before joining Essential Climbing, Mike served as the Route Setting Director at The Front Climbing Club from 2010-2019 and as the USA Climbing Route Setting Director from 2020-2025. He has been a USA Climbing National Head Route Setter since 2018 and an IFSC Route Setter since 2023. As an accomplished climber, he’s sent up to 5.14c and V14, showcasing not only his technical skills but also his deep passion for the sport.
In his new role, Mike will be servicing the Western U.S., covering NM, AZ, CO, ND, SD, MT, WY, UT, ID, WA, OR, CA, NV, and NE. We are thrilled to have him on board and know that you will benefit from his expertise!
