August 14, 2026 — Capitan, the all-in-one management platform for climbing gyms, today announced the release of Chart Assistant, a new AI-powered tool that lets operators generate custom analytics charts through natural language instead of manual configuration. The launch is part of a broader update to Capitan’s Chart Builder, which also adds composite metrics, a dashboard builder, and new display controls for cleaner reporting.
Chart Assistant is built directly into the existing Chart Builder. Users click the Chart Assistant button and describe the chart they want in plain English. The assistant proposes the appropriate metrics, date ranges, intervals, and filters automatically. From there, charts can be refined conversationally, with requests like “make that monthly” or “split it by location” adjusting the output in real time.
Importantly, Chart Assistant only builds charts that could already be created manually within the Chart Builder, and every proposal is validated against Capitan’s existing business rules, both when it’s first suggested and again when it’s applied. Capitan also built the feature with data privacy as a core requirement: only organizational configuration data is shared with third-party AI providers. No customer records and none of the actual numbers behind a gym’s charts are ever transmitted.
“Operators know exactly what they want to see in their data, they just don’t always want to click through menus to get there,” said Wesley Verne, Cofounder at Capitan. “Chart Assistant lets someone type ‘show me monthly revenue by membership type for the last year’ and get a finished, accurate chart in seconds, without ever leaving the guardrails that keep the data reliable.”
The release also introduces Dashboard Builder, which lets operators arrange up to 12 charts and tables on a single screen for at-a-glance reporting. Dashboards are accessed through the Reporting section and can be built using existing saved charts or tables, or by specifying new ones, with a preview shown before each chart is placed. Dashboards can be shared privately or with the whole organization, support fullscreen mode for display screens, refresh automatically roughly every ten minutes, and allow time range and location filters to be applied across every chart at once. A gym’s membership manager, for example, could build a dashboard showing memberships sold this month, referral counts, and member churn in one place.
Chart Assistant, the updated Chart Builder, and Dashboard Builder are available now to Capitan customers.
