Tension Climbing Launches BEИT, a Climbing Hold Company for Commercial Routesetting

December 9, 2024 – Tension Climbing—an industry-leading training tool manufacturer and maker of the popular Tension Board 2 (TB2)—is proud to announce a new sister company, BEИT, specializing in modern climbing hold creation for commercial routesetting.

At its core, BEИT is dedicated to designing holds that prioritize the routesetter’s experience. Utilizing the same shaping techniques of the TB2, BEИT bridges form and function to create shapes that are as enjoyable to routeset with as they are to climb on. All of the company’s hold sets are symmetrical, also referred to as mirrored—a theme Tension Climbing introduced to the LED-climbing board market in 2016. Symmetry ensures hold sets have a high degree of utility across multiple setting scenarios. Hold sets will no longer be overly biased to left- or right-handedness, opening up interesting setting opportunities and helping routesetters efficiently find the holds they need.

“Our goal at BEИT is to make high-quality holds that are easy to work with and engaging to climb on to help everyone have a better time routesetting and climbing,” said Will Anglin, Co-Founder and Designer of BEИT. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to leverage my previous 15 years of commercial routesetting experience to create holds that I would want to set with time and time again, as well as holds I’m visually intrigued by and inspired to climb on.”

To manufacture its ABS macro holds, BEИT has partnered with another Colorado-based company, Absolute Climbing, to employ a modern technique called vacuum thermoforming. This process, combined with BEИT’s unique designs, results in holds typically lighter and more durable than traditional fiberglass macros. Lighter holds reduce the physical wear and tear routesetters endure while working and increase the sustainability of the routesetting profession.

In addition, thermoformed ABS holds offer a more environmentally sustainable alternative to standard fiberglass holds. The holds are made of 95% post-industrial recycled materials, and the thermoforming process uses less toxic chemicals to create the final product. Further enhancing their sustainability, thermoformed ABS holds can be repaired, retextured, and recolored to extend their lifespan dramatically.

“There are already tons of trashed fiberglass macros that have been taken out of use that can’t be repaired and reused. This waste is a problem for the industry,” said Michael Rosato, Director of Marketing at Tension Climbing and Co-Founder of BEИT. “When we create shapes and sell them, we aim to ensure they’re highly functional, are usable for years to come, and deliver a great experience for both routesetters and climbers.”
