The Job
As a Planet Rock Routesetter, you will design, install, and maintain climbing routes and boulders, to ensure a dynamic and engaging experience for climbers. Responsibilities include weekly route setting, hold stripping, washing, and organizing hardware such as bolts and screws. The ideal candidate is committed to refining their route-setting skills, mentoring apprentices, and fostering a safe and enjoyable climbing environment for all guests.
Responsibilities
- Maintain holds, including stripping and washing them.
- Maintain a good flow of newly changed routes, by direction of head setter.
- Work with routesetters at other Planet Rock locations to create a unified setting staff.
- Keep up necessary maintenance logs in wall book, working with wall manager.
- Set for local competitions, following schedule planned by head setter.
- Seek higher levels of setting certification for comps, etc., if desired.

- Grand Rapids location
- Starting hourly rate $15-$20/hr
- Full-time position
- Available to work occasional weekend events
- Prior climbing gym experience preferred
- Prior routesetting experience preferred
