The Youth Programs Coordinator at Portland Rock Gym will play a pivotal role in the success of our youth Recreation Team, introductory youth classes, and our summer camp programs. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, engagement, and connection, as well as introducing individuals to climbing and supporting their lifelong competitive climbing journey in a healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable manner. Collaborating closely with the Programs Director and Programs Manager, the Youth Programs Coordinator will build and facilitate programs and practices aimed at supporting climbers in their athletic and personal development. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in youth development and a love for introducing others to the sport of climbing. This is not a competition team coaching position.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
– Design, develop, and implement comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels, including recreational teams and summer camps.
– Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.
– Lead weekly practices during the school year, and help facilitate school break and summer camps.
– Coach and run programs at both gym locations in the Portland area
– Supervise climbers during practices and while modeling PRG’s values.
– Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each climber to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.
– Actively respond to customer needs, membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback.
– Work collaboratively with other coaches and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the facility’s goals and objectives.
– Collaborate with the Gym Manager on what areas the athletes are allowed to use during busy hours and events.
– Communicate with parents and families, answer questions, respond to emails in a timely manner
– Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
– Technical proficiency in climbing and climbing safety
– Previous experience as a youth coach or youth development professional (2+ years)
– Previous managerial experience
– Previous experience using RGP(Rock Gym Pro) preferred
– Previous Sales and/or Marketing experience preferred
FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
– Ensure the safety of participants, staff and other customers through group organization, oversight, and practice planning.
– Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation.
– Respond to accidents and incidents following the PRG Safety Manual and Protocol and properly document any incidents through incident report log.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
– This may be full time hourly or part time hourly based on the candidate availability and experience. $19-23/hour
