As Whetstone continues to grow, we are searching for a driven, creative route setter who is open to developing their skills and becoming a part of the Whetstone community. The candidate will be personable, genuine, and in line with Whetstone’s mission statement of connecting our community through climbing.
Routesetting is an enormous part of what makes any climbing gym special. The Whetstone setting team takes great pride in their ability to create and maintain high-quality routes and boulder problems as a product for our members, youth teams, and daily guests.
Setters should be focused on creating the highest quality routes/boulders which are both enjoyable and challenging. Setters will also be provided with the opportunity for continuing education and all the tools necessary to achieve our high standards and setting goals. Setters are expected to be personable, help foster the community in a positive way, and welcome all feedback.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial setting experience on ropes and boulders
- Ability to set and forerun up to V12 and 5.13+ and a minimum ability to climb v8 and 5.13-
- Competition setting experience preferred
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Safe and comfortable working at height
- Proficient with drills
- Informed about the industry and new setting styles
- Able to follow safety procedures and protocols
- Understands the importance of customer service
- Positive and friendly attitude
- Able to give and receive constructive feedback
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn
- Focused, proficient and confident in daily duties
- Neat, organized, and goal-oriented
- Energetic and enthusiastic
Hours & Compensation
- Position scheduled to start in August/September 2026
- Position is part-time, possibly full-time (18 – 30+ hours, setting 2-3 days per week), non-exempt, hourly position.
- Hourly Rate: $20-$25 commensurate with experience and reference checks
