Overview:
To us, a Route Setter is someone who loves climbing at work, appreciates the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of climbing movement through practice, and shares that love and appreciation through what we give back to our community of climbers. We are looking for someone to join our team in Santa Ana for 3 days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Meet team goals and proactively troubleshoot issues as they arise throughout the workday;
- Set new climbs and contribute meaningful creative advice for improvement of those new climbs, utilizing positive and effective communication;
- Assist with the set-up and breakdown of the days work location, and removal of old climbs from the wall;
- Perform occasional wall maintenance activities;
- Set climbs for, and provide assistance for, special events including Member Leagues, USAC Youth Competitions, and World Climbing Events;
- Assist other departments such as Youth Programs, Facilities, and Customer Experience to create long-lasting positive relationships with members;
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and perform tasks abiding appropriate Job Safety Analyses (JSA).

- Delegate and communicate with staff clearly and respectfully;
- Passionate about climbing (both indoors and out), working with kids, and instructing;
- Ability to harness imagination and find novel approaches to shared responsibilities;
- Ability to learn and grow from each task, challenge, and interaction while seeing them through to the end;
- Open to receiving & providing feedback, guidance, insight, assistance, and perspective in a professional manner;
- Work with a team, provide support to fellow team members, share ideas, and earn trust;

Industry Experience:
- Previous setting experience;
- Top rope & lead belay experience;
- Critical and strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills;
- Knowledge of Google Suite Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.;
- Knowledge of Rock Gym Pro reporting;
- Knowledge of Basecamp;
- Preferably climb 5.12 and v7 regularly;
- USAC credentials welcomed.
Pay & Time Commitment:
- $23.00 – $27.00 per hour depending on past experience
- Must be able to work a minimum of 2-3 days per work week (Sun – Sat);
- Must be able to attend the Mandatory All Staff Quarterly meeting.
