Stone Climbing is seeking a gym manager for our flagship Jacksonville location. Stone is a climber/operator-owned gym that prioritizes people, climbing culture, and getting outside. Our core values are Excellence, Integrity, and Fellowship.
Our ideal candidate has experience working in the climbing industry, managing people, and sales and/or retail. They are hard-working, flowing with positive energy, comfortable making decisions, a leader of people, an effective communicator, and highly self-motivated.
Stone Managers are the owners of their gym. They always have the support of leadership, but are trusted to operate their location at a high-level with minimal outside help.
Position Core Responsibilities
- Safety
Maintain high safety standards. Assure all essential equipment is checked monthly per manufacturer recommendations. Continually communicate crew safety standards and protocols.
- Experience / Vibe
Maintain a high level of cleanliness inside and outside the gym. Train and monitor the crew to assure the highest level of customer service. Communicate with the Head Routesetter on setting needs based on member/guest feedback and interactions.
- Community
Create a welcoming environment. Host events that promote real connections with people. Make your gym fun!
- Financial
Keep expenses as low as possible while maintaining the standards of the gym. Train your crew on tactful sales techniques.
- Legal
Be extremely mindful of waivers, employee conduct, and potential hazards inside and outside of the property.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of management experience, ideally in fitness, recreation, hospitality, or membership-based industries.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and influence a team of young people.
- Passion for community, fitness, and experiential business operations.
- Previous management experience, preferably overseeing teams of 10+ employees.
- Demonstrated experience with sales, membership growth, customer retention, or other revenue-generating initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking publicly to groups of members, guests, and prospective customers.
- Strong organizational and self-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Confident and comfortable both giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Able to stand and move around the facility for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to work hands-on and contribute wherever needed.
Compensation starts between $50k and $60k, will have performance incentives, and will be based on experience.
