FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SANTA BARBARA, CA – May 22, 2023 – The Pad Climbing, a community committed to sharing the passion and joy of climbing for over 20 years, is thrilled to announce the opening of its newest facility: The BoardRoom, in Santa Barbara, on Wednesday, May 24th.
The BoardRoom harkens back to The Pad Climbing’s humble beginnings in a storage unit, embodying the pure passion that fueled the creation of SLO Op two decades ago. This dedicated training facility is designed for climbers who remember the thrill of their first climb, those who dreamed of building home walls in their living rooms, as well as those ready to embark on their climbing journey. With 1,000 square feet of 25 and 40-degree training walls, Woods board, Moon board, a campus board, showers, free weights and cardio equipment, and 24/7 access for members, The BoardRoom is poised to rekindle and nurture that sense of excitement and camaraderie.
“We are just so excited to bring the love to Santa Barbara finally,” said Yishai Horowitz, Chief of Business Development, of the more than ten year journey. “There’s been so many ups and downs, it doesn’t feel real. A lot of people didn’t think it would even happen, right up to last week. Literally seeing the walls go up finally made it feel real.”
Jacob VonEhrenclark, a former SLO Oper and the new BoardRoom Coordinator, has been instrumental in translating this vision into reality, embodying the spirit of SLO Op and a deep understanding of the culture that makes The Pad Climbing unique.
This significant milestone is not just for The Pad Climbing, but for the Santa Barbara community, a region where the enthusiasm for indoor climbing continues to grow. This project, funded largely by local investment, and a larger full-sized indoor rock climbing gym still in permitting in the same complex, is possible due to the local community’s enthusiasm and commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative climbing environment.
The BoardRoom hours will be 4-7 pm weekdays and 10-2 on weekends for new member processing and welcoming guests, with 24/7 access for existing members.
