Join legendary alpinist Conrad Anker for a special screening of REEL ROCK 15 — four of the best climbing films of the year, including the runaway hit Black Ice — in support of Memphis Rox, a groundbreaking non-profit climbing gym and community center in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee.

Sharing the bill with the three other great REEL ROCK 15 films (Deep Roots, Action Directe and First Ascent/Last Ascent), Black Ice is being hailed as one of the most powerful climbing movies in years. It follows a group of climbers from Memphis Rox who team up with the legendary alpinist Conrad Anker on an ice climbing mission in Hyalite Canyon. Landing in Bozeman, CO, a place one team member calls “so white it makes your eyes hurt” the Memphis crew tackles frozen waterfalls, skiing and camping in sub-zero, blizzard conditions. Filled with humor and camaraderie, Black Ice is a testament to how climbing can heal wounds and build bridges.

Outside magazine says this year’s REEL ROCK films “remind us that a more diverse climbing culture isn’t just important, it’s also more surprising and interesting than the status quo.”

After a long and difficult year, we at REEL ROCK are more excited than ever to present this year’s lineup of films to the climbing + outdoor community, and to continue supporting inclusivity and representation in gyms and outdoor spaces. We’ve already raised over $300K to help ensure Memphis Rox can continue its great work and expand their model to underserved populations in other urban areas throughout the country.

Located in one of the poorest and most segregated zip codes in the nation, Memphis Rox employs an innovative “pay-what-you-can” model that ensures no one is turned away. Rox has redefined the role of a climbing gym and become the neighborhood’s de facto community center. Through climbing, tutoring and healthy food, Rox is changing lives in South Memphis. We’re thrilled to welcome climbers from Memphis Rox to join us in raising additional funds for this amazing project.

The Boulder event will feature gear giveaways from Black Diamond, The North Face and Yeti, as well as appearances by athletes and representation from local sponsors and partners in the Front Range.
