This short film is an international female routesetters’ love letter to the development of routesetting and the spaces we inhabit. A feature for anyone who has ever felt like they do not belong in routesetting or a climbing space.

Come as you are- a gathering for a group of female routesetters to empower and increase visibility. 6 international routesetters were invited to work, play and exchange ideas for two days at Elys boulderloft in Basel, Switzerland.

  • Routesetters from 7 different cultures and backgrounds sharing thoughts about professionalizing routesetting, the future and development of setting
  • Features an Olympian, several (ex) international competitors, two artists and a lot of light and strength.

“Progression in routesetting is not a gendered issue. Diversity in setting teams would mean different shapes, sizes and perspectives within setting, leading to fresh ideas on the wall. This, in turn, would push routesetting, but also allow for progression and development within the sport.”

The film will be released on the hungrylatvian Youtube channel on 6 July 2023. This has been the first project Alise* has brought to life within routesetting, but, if funding allows, she is full of many more ideas and hopes to continue creating in the future. In the pipeline are more routesetting exchange events, where smaller creators (photographers and cinematographers) can also participate and express themselves within warm and inviting environments.

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently” (Steve Jobs quote, not mine)…

*Alise set at the 2022 European Championships, the 2022 Morioka Iwate Combined World cup (becoming the second woman in the world to have set for a combined event). She holds a Swiss National RS title. Rebelling against the systems in place surrounding routesetting, but dreams
of a better future.
