This is a part time hourly position that can be supplemented with desk or maintenance shifts if needed.
Pay Scale: $20 – $22.50 hourly commensurate with experience
Youth Programs Philosophy
Our youth programs are centered around the idea that there are many ways to interact with climbing, and it is our job to offer programs that allow kids to engage with the sport in the way that make the most sense for them. By offering programs that vary in age, developmental stage, experience, and commitment level, we strive to help each child find their place in the sport and develop a positive, sustainable, lifelong relationship with climbing.
About the Role
Our recreational youth programs have grown significantly, and the scope of the program has reached a point where we’re ready to add dedicated leadership to support its continued growth. The Recreational Teams Head Coach will take primary responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of these programs, overseeing program delivery and continued development while ensuring a high-quality experience for athletes and families.
The Recreational Teams Head Coach will also support the continued development of the recreational coaching team, fostering a shared vision and culture across the program.

Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Quality
- Deliver safe, engaging, and well-organized recreational programs that consistently reflect MetroRock’s coaching philosophy
- Maintain an active coaching presence to ensure a high-quality participant experience
- Collaborate with the Youth Programs Manager to develop curriculum, improve coaching procedures, identify growth opportunities, and recommend programming based on community needs
Program Administration & Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of all recreational programs, including registration, attendance, staffing, and collaboration with the Front Desk
- Finalize payroll and timesheets and ensure adequate staffing for all programs
- Maintain expert knowledge of MetroRock offerings and serve as the primary point of contact for recreational programming
Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, onboard, schedule, develop, and supervise Recreational Coaches through regular coaching, feedback, accountability, and professional development
- Conduct performance reviews for Apprentice and Recreational Lead Coaches at least once every 6 months
- Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that reflects MetroRock’s core values
- Foster a culture of accountability and direct communication and model MetroRock’s leadership expectations
Customer Service & Communication
- Maintain strong relationships with members, families, and the Front Desk through responsive communication and exceptional customer service
- Serve as a knowledgeable and accessible resource for participants, families, and staff regarding recreational programming
- Coordinate effectively across departments to address participant needs and resolve concerns
- Ensure an exceptional member experience through clear communication, responsiveness, and sound judgment
Qualifications

- Experience coaching youth in recreational and/or competitive climbing programs, with an understanding of youth development and age-appropriate coaching.
- Experience leading or supervising others, including coaching, mentoring, scheduling, or managing staff.
- Experience with indoor climbing instruction, risk management, and climbing facility operations.
- Proficiency with technology and program management/point-of-sale systems, such as Rock Gym Pro.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Current SafeSport Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Schedule & Availability
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekday evenings and Sundays, based on program enrollment, seasonal needs, and staffing requirements
- Regular presence during peak recreational program hours to support coaching, staff, and participants
- Availability to attend staff meetings, training, and performance reviews as needed
