GENERAL SUMMARY:
Team Edgeworks strives to inspire and challenge youth athletes to compete in a fun and supportive environment. Under mentorship of USAC certified coaching staff, our athletes learn how to develop a healthy work ethic, to compete at the highest levels, and to be lifelong climbers.
The Head Coach is primarily responsible for mentoring Team Coaches and working as a team to coach Team Edgeworks athletes. The Head Coach also is responsible for program and training design. The Head Coach reports to the Director of Team and works collaboratively with the Operations Manager to ensure the highest quality experience for the climbing team and the best overall results at competitions.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL:
- Demonstrate an inclusive coaching philosophy focused on developing confidence, climbing ability, and growth both on and off the walls.
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Team to create and execute developmentally-appropriate training curriculums for Team athletes at all levels, ensuring athlete safety is at the forefront.
- Design and implement seasonal training plans, goals, and follow-up for the team as a whole as well as for individual athletes as needed.
- Foster camaraderie among Team Coaches and a culture of direct communication and respect.
- Work with the Operations Manager to balance the needs of the Team with the needs of the rest of the community.
- Serve as the key contact for Team Edgeworks athletes and parents; develop and maintain relationships with Team families.
- Assist with ongoing communication with team members and parents regarding schedule, expectations, and performance.
- Hire, train, and manage Team Edgeworks Coaches.
- Schedule Team Edgeworks coaching staff to optimize practice needs.
- Attend practices and competitions.
- Coach at all Championship level events
- Coach at the majority of Qualifying Events
- Assist with organizing Team events (fundraisers, social events, mock comps, etc).
- Collaborate with other Edgeworks locations’ Head Coaches on programming, staffing, & events.
- Coordinate with the Director of Team to schedule Team Edgeworks practices with non-Edgeworks teams and to coordinate practices held at other gyms.
- Collaborate with leadership to create and/or monitor financial forecasting for Team budgeting and payroll.
- Ensure departmental equipment is being inspected in a timely manner.
- Act as an Edgeworks ambassador while climbing competitions.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
MUST-HAVES:
- Competitive youth climbing coaching experience.
- Experienced and proven team contributor.
- Experience with hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling coaches.
- Advanced indoor rock climbing knowledge and experience required.
- Lead belay certified.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be customer-service oriented.
- Must be willing to travel out of state for championship level competitions.
- Computer literacy in google suite products, internet and email.
- Must be USAC Level 2 Certified Coach or have the ability to acquire certification within 90 days.
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Routesetting experience.
- Competition climbing experience.
- Computer literacy with Redpoint HQ.
- Comprehensive understanding of USAC rules and competition schedule.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
- Compensation: $28.60 per hour
- Full-Time Hourly (Hours may include working competitions on the weekends, projects and/or working before/after regular hours)
