Bronx, NY
Bouldering gyms go well with up-and-coming neighborhoods, what with their lower rents, young artistic gentrifiers and a plethora of building options. (The LA.B is trying this out in downtown Los Angeles). In New York, The Bronx fits the bill perfectly.
The Bronx, which is just north of Manhattan, has had a bad reputation as a down and dirty, crime ridden New York borough. That was true in the 60’s and 70’s but today it’s home to emerging areas in South Bronx that offer good transportation, including High Bridge, which includes Yankee Stadium, and Melrose, which includes the Hub.
The nearest climbing gym to the 1.4 million people that reside in the Bronx is a 30 min train and walk north to New Rochelle. Combine this with the 15,000 students at Fordham University and an emerging entrepreneurial community, the Bronx could be just a starting point to explore the greater New York area for an entrepreneurial bouldering gym developer.
