About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Route Setter & Youth Program Lead to support both the route setting program and the development of structured youth and competitive climbing initiatives within a new, large-scale bouldering facility in Edmonton.

This hybrid role is designed for an experienced professional who brings both advanced route setting expertise and demonstrated experience working with youth and competitive athletes. The position plays a key role in delivering progression-based climbing experiences and supporting long-term athlete development.

Key Responsibilities

Route Setting (Primary Technical Role)

  • Set a wide range of climbs, including advanced and competition-style problems (V6–V10+)
  • Contribute to structured reset schedules alongside the Head Route Setter
  • Maintain consistency in grading, movement design, and progression across all levels
  • Assist in stripping, hold maintenance, and installation operations
  • Uphold safety standards and best practices in all setting activities

Youth Program & Athlete Development

  • Design and implement structured youth climbing programs for recreational and competitive athletes
  • Lead and coach youth teams, including skill development, movement education, and progression tracking
  • Support the development of competition pathways, including preparation for local, regional, and national events
  • Collaborate on curriculum development aligned with long-term athlete development principles
  • Communicate with athletes and parents regarding progression and program expectations

Competition & Community Programming

  • Assist in planning and executing in-house competitions, leagues, and events
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive community environment
  • Support programming that integrates route setting with athlete development

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in route setting within a commercial climbing facility
  • Demonstrated experience setting advanced routes (V6+ and above), including exposure to competition-style setting
  • Proven experience working with youth climbers and/or coaching structured programs
  • Experience supporting or participating in climbing competitions (setting, coaching, or competing)
  • Strong understanding of movement progression and skill development for climbers
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a structured team environment
  • Experience working at height (ladders, lifts, or rope systems)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive wage: $32.00/hr – $37.00/hr

  • Full-time, permanent position (minimum 30 hours/week)
