The How:
As a Tier 3 Setter you are an expert at climbing movement and creating meaningful movement experiences through routesetting. You are creative, self-driven, and motivated to push what’s possible in the setting industry. You model communication standards for the team, regularly providing and soliciting clear and direct feedback. As a Tier 3 Setter you consistently demonstrate leadership, mentoring fellow Setting Team Members, keeping the team energy positive, and supporting in setting the standard of professionalism.
The What:
Tier 3 Setters are responsible for mentoring fellow Setters and setting engaging boulders, and lead and top rope routes in accordance with Mesa Rim protocols.
- Fulfill job functions of Tier 1 and Tier 2 Setters as needed
- Set creative, interesting, thoughtful, and varied movement experiences while ensuring Mesa Rim Setting Standards, including Work at Height Standards, are upheld
- Follow established safety protocols and best practices at all times; provide recommendations to supervisor on possible safety-related improvements
- Lead by example and maintain high standards for clean and organized work spaces
- Support team in managing time effectively, providing guidance for the team’s workflow and setting practices
- Work collaboratively with Team, forerunning routes within climbing ability and providing clear, actionable feedback to peers
- Demonstrate strong self-objectivity and desire to grow, regularly soliciting and processing feedback from Team
- Lead by example and support the team in communicating clearly with one another
- Serve as a Mesa Rim cultural example, consistently demonstrating and holding others accountable to Mesa Rim Core Values
- Serve as Mesa Rim representative, engaging with the community about climbing and routes as needed
- Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working on applicable tasks
- For applicable site(s): operate aerial boom lift in accordance with training and safety requirements
In addition to the essential job functions above, listed below is an example area of emphasis that may be assigned to one or more of the Tier 3 Setters.
- Serve as Site Expert
- Ensure operational excellence for the Setting Department at designated site and serve as the point of contact for site-specific setting issues
- Maintain route tags and route inventory; ensure spinners are addressed in a timely manner and oversee the workspace cleanliness at designated site
- Provide leadership during competitions as assigned
- Coordinate with Setting Support Supervisor to ensure the Setting Support Team has access to proper equipment at designated site
Other work-related duties as assigned
Hours vary and minimums may be required according to the needs of business operations at each location
Must-Haves:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must contribute to Mesa Rim Climbing Center culture
- Must have ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude and be a team player
- Must have a drive to grow professionally
- Must have understanding and ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to 5.13 and v7
- Must have ability to forerun lead routes, top rope routes, and boulder problems
- Must have at least three years setting experience in rope climbing gym
- Must understand and follow Mesa Rim Work at Height policies
- Must have Boulder and Sport competition setting experience
Nice-to-Haves:
- USAC certification
- Previous leadership experience
- Ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to 5.14 and v10

The employee is regularly required to utilize manual dexterity to handle or feel; use both hands at the same time; reach with hands and arms; reach overhead with arms; walk on hard/soft and even/uneven surfaces; use a computer; talk, yell and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Tier 3 Setter Pay Range: $23.50-$32.00/hour
