The Commons Climbing Gym
MISSION:
The Commons Climbing Gym serves the climbing community by providing a welcoming environment for personal growth, learning, and friendship.
Summary:
Routesetters are in charge of maintaining consistency, safety, and quality of routes and boulders, while mentoring other setters, and ensuring an efficient and professional work environment. On an average day, routesetters will route strip a section of wall, set 2 routes or 4-6 boulders and forerun these climbs to the quality standards expected by the Commons Climbing Gym.
Responsibilities:
- Route strip a section of wall of 2 – 4 routes or 25 – 35 boulders.
- Set and forerun routes
- Ensure quality, consistency, and grading accuracy across all climbs
- Provide mentorship and feedback to other routesetters
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient work zone
- Communicate effectively with the head routesetter and management on daily priorities
- Assist with competitions and special events
- Follow all safety protocols and model professional conduct
Requirements:
- Be at 18 years of age or older
- Must be able to lead belay, lead climb, and boulder.
- Must be available to routeset rope routes on Mondays and boulders on Thursdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm.
- 1 or more years of professional route setting experience
- Ability to set and forerun routes up to 5.12 and boulders up to V7
- Ideal candidate would have the ability to climb 5.13 and V9
- Strong understanding of movement, risk management, and member experience
- Proficiency in routesetting on rope systems with a haul line.
- Skilled with all tools involved in routesetting (impact drivers, angle grinders, etc.)
- Ability to meet the physical demands of routesetting
- Strong leadership, communication, and attention to detail
- Friendly, approachable, and team-focused personality
Employment Status:
- Part-Time hourly. Potential for full-time hourly employment, with additional roles
- Wage: $16 to $22 per hour
