Position: Routesetter

Schedule: Part-Time 3 days per week of setting

Location: MetroRock Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY

Reports to: Head Routesetter / Director of Routesetting

Our routesetting program is central to that mission—designed to support climbers of all abilities, inspire progression, and reflect modern movement while staying true to the needs of our local community.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Routesetter to join our Bushwick team. This role is ideal for a setter who enjoys working collaboratively, setting both boulders and roped climbs, and contributing consistently to a dynamic commercial climbing product.

Primary Responsibilities

Routesetting (3 Days per Week)

• Set and forerun a variety of boulder problems and roped routes across all commercial grades.
• Collaborate with the Bushwick setting team to maintain balanced wall distribution, grade consistency, and appropriate turnover.
• Participate in forerunning sessions to ensure climbs meet safety standards and movement intentions.
• Follow MetroRock setting guidelines, safety protocols, and workflow procedures.

Climbing Product & Gym Experience

• Create engaging, accessible, and well-thought-out climbs that serve beginners through advanced climbers.
• Contribute to a cohesive aesthetic and style that aligns with MetroRock’s brand and Bushwick’s community.
• Assist with basic hold and equipment management, including washing, organizing, and maintaining setting tools.

Team & Operations Support

• Communicate clearly with Head Routesetter and teammates regarding workload, timelines, and wall needs.
• Support a positive, professional setting culture that values collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement.
• Assist with special projects, events, or competitions as needed.

Qualifications

Required

• 1–3+ years of professional routesetting experience.
• Ability to set both boulders and roped routes independently and as part of a team.
• Solid understanding of climbing movement, grading, and risk management.
• Comfortable working at height and performing physically demanding labor safely.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
