About the Jordan Climbing Federation
The Jordan Climbing Federation (JCF) is the national governing body for sport climbing in Jordan, responsible for the development of climbing athletes, coaches and competitions across the country.
JCF is looking for an ambitious and motivated mid-career climbing coach to lead the technical development of Jordan’s national climbing team and contribute to the development of the federation’s coaching system.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced coach who is ready to take on greater responsibility, lead a national team program, and develop their career in an international environment.
The Head Coach will have a hands-on role in athlete development while also supervising and mentoring the JCF coaching team. The position combines direct coaching, training-program development, route setting, competition preparation, athlete management and coach development.
This is an opportunity for a coach who wants to grow with a national program, take meaningful responsibility, and build international coaching experience.
Key Responsibilities
Athlete Coaching & Team Management
- Personally coach a minimum of two national team categories.
- Each category will normally consist of 4–6 athletes, with two coached sessions per week, each lasting approximately two hours.
- Supervise the national team coaching program and allocate coaches to sessions according to athlete needs and coach availability.
- Ensure all coaches work according to a unified team training program and maintain consistent coaching standards.
- Mentor and support JCF coaches in developing their technical and coaching skills.
Individual Athlete Development
- Prepare and maintain a weekly training plan for every national team athlete.
- Training plans will include an additional two individual training sessions per week for athletes to complete independently.
- Maintain regular athlete feedback sheets and use the feedback to monitor progress and adjust training.
- Conduct formal athlete assessments using TENDIQ every 3–5 months to establish objective performance data and track development.
- Follow up with injured athletes and coordinate, where appropriate, with their physiotherapists or medical professionals.
Route Setting & Training
- Set appropriate boulder and lead routes for the national team according to athlete level, training objectives and competition requirements.
- Coordinate with the Head Route Setter where necessary.
- Ensure training sessions are structured and aligned with the individual and team training objectives.
Competition Preparation
- Organize a competition simulation at least once every month, covering bouldering and lead as appropriate, and record the results.
- Prepare athletes for national and international competitions, including competition-specific training and strategy.
- Travel with the national team to assigned competitions and training camps and provide technical and coaching support.
- Participate in the national team selection process and recommend athletes for competition participation according to JCF criteria.
Communication & Team Standards
- Manage official communication with parents regarding training schedules, attendance, competitions, expectations and relevant athlete matters.
- Maintain accurate athlete attendance records.
- Ensure athletes and coaches follow JCF training, safety, behavioral and disciplinary standards.
- Ensure the Head Coach, coaches and athletes comply with the JCF Code of Ethics / Code of Conduct.
- Report any significant disciplinary, ethical or safety concerns to the JCF Technical Committee.
Monthly Reporting
The Head Coach will submit a monthly report to the JCF Technical Committee covering:
- Athlete attendance and significant attendance issues
- Monthly competition simulation results
- Athlete performance and development concerns
- Injuries and relevant follow-up
- Disciplinary issues or violations of team standards
- Any concerns regarding the JCF Code of Ethics / Code of Conduct
- Coaching team issues and development needs
- Other matters requiring the Technical Committee’s attention
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate:
- Has strong experience coaching competitive climbers in bouldering and lead.
- Has experience working with youth and developing athletes.
- Is comfortable taking responsibility for athletes’ long-term development.
- Can design structured training programs and set appropriate boulder and lead routes for athletes.
- Is organized and confident communicating with athletes and parents.
- Has the leadership ability to supervise and mentor other coaches.
- Is adaptable and comfortable working within a developing national federation.
- Is motivated by athlete development rather than simply delivering coaching sessions.
- Is willing to relocate to Amman, Jordan and become part of the local climbing community.
- Is motivated by the opportunity to develop athletes who represent Jordan at national and international competitions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience coaching sport climbing athletes.
- Strong knowledge of bouldering and lead climbing.
- Experience coaching competitive athletes.
- Experience developing individualized training programs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience working with and/or supervising other coaches.
- Experience in route setting for training and competition-level athletes.
- Willingness to travel for competitions and training camps.
- World Climbing, national or recognized equivalent coaching certification is preferred.
