From Press Release:
Birmingham Expansion
High Point is in expansion mode. High Point has negotiated a purchase contract to acquire a 35,000 sq. ft. fitness center located in between the Homewood and Hoover suburbs of Birmingham to open their second climbing gym. The property has road frontage on prominent Highway 280. We will completely renovate the existing facility, says O’Brien. We will allocate floor space of 3,500 sq. ft. for the Kid Zone, 5,500 sq. ft. for the Bouldering room and 8,000 sq. ft. for top rope/lead climbing. We expect the total climbing surface to be approximately 27,000 sq. ft. The gym will be a full service fitness facility with aerobics and weight equipment, a yoga studio, party rooms, locker and shower facilities and a gear shop.
“We are excited about the opportunity to design and build our second climbing gym” says Wiygul, especially in the city of Birmingham which is only two hours from Chattanooga. It was a natural choice for our first expansion since the city is growing, has a revitalization effort downtown, and is within one hour of multiple outdoor climbing areas. We expect to commence construction in June with a projected opening date of January, 2016.
More Space For Kids
In December, they celebrated their one year anniversary and simultaneously opened Kid Zone, a 3,000 square foot climbing area designed specifically for kids by Walltopia. Johnny O’Brien, partner/investor negotiated to acquire the adjacent space when it became available, and knew he wanted to add this specialty product after visiting Sender One and seeing the first gym in the US to offer this concept.
John Wiygul, partner/general manager says we were overwhelmed with the number of families and kids climbing in our gym. Since we are located in the tourist district of downtown Chattanooga we have 400-500 kids each weekend visiting our facility. The addition of a Kid Zone made a lot of sense given our demographics.
