Houston, TX — September 14, 2026 — Crux Climbing Center, an Austin-based facility for climbing, fitness and yoga, will open its first Houston location at The Plant in Second Ward on September 17. Located at 3100 Canal St., the 21,000-square-foot gym marks a new chapter for the Texas-owned and operated company. Shaped by years of member feedback and operational experience in Austin, the purpose-built space is designed to serve Houston’s fast-growing climbing community.
“As a native Houstonian, bringing Crux to the Bayou City has always been a part of the long-term vision,” said Kevin Goradia, co-founder of Crux Climbing Center. “Crux is a community-oriented climbing gym, and our decision to open our first out-of-market location at The Plant was largely inspired by Concept Neighborhood’s plans to create a walkable neighborhood that truly integrates the local community. We’re excited to open our doors, and even more excited for Houstonians to make Crux their home.”
Building on the foundation of Crux Central, the new gym keeps the amenities members know: bouldering, strength training, fitness and yoga classes, locker rooms, saunas, a Kids Cave, training boards, spray wall, lounge space, and a retail shop. Crux also partnered with local artists W3R3ON3, Scott Tarbox, Elizabeth Umanzor (Lizzz Arts), and Floyd Mendoza on murals throughout the space. This fall, the gym will sponsor and host The Buffalo Bayou Mural Festival, three days of art, culture, cars, and community, from October 16 to 18.
“We wanted Crux Houston to feel like Houston — bold, creative, a little weird, full of personality. We are so thankful to these talented muralists who brought that to life,” said Goradia.
The Houston location will also carry over Crux’s programming, including member appreciation events, industry nights, youth programs, summer camps, adaptive climbing programs and bouldering competitions, continuing the gym’s commitment to an inclusive, community-first climbing environment for all ages and skill levels.

First opened in 2016, Crux Climbing Center’s new Houston location joins existing gyms in Central Austin, South Austin and Pflugerville.
