Stone Co. Climbing is a community-driven climbing gym serving hundreds of members across climbing, fitness, yoga, and youth programs.
We’re looking for a General Manager who will take ownership of the gym’s daily operations, leading the team, supporting key areas of the business, and ensuring a consistently great experience for our members.
This role is hands-on and people-focused. You’ll lead others, but you’ll also step in when needed to keep things running smoothly.
The Role
You are the primary on-site leader of the gym.
Your job is to make sure:
- The team is supported and performing well
- The gym runs smoothly day-to-day
- Members have a great experience every time they walk in
You’ll work with several functional leads (routesetting, desk, youth programs, retail/events, facilities, and a marketing agency), while also being ready to step in and support those areas when needed.
What You’ll Do
Team Leadership & Support
- Lead and support a team made up largely of part-time staff and student employees
- Provide clear direction, feedback, and accountability
- Help team members grow and succeed in their roles
- Handle scheduling, staffing, and basic HR needs
Daily Operations
- Be the point person for day-to-day decision making
- Ensure all areas of the gym are running smoothly
- Oversee usage of Rock Gym Pro (RGP) and general workflows
- Step in as needed if a team member or department is short-staffed
Member Experience
- Set the tone for customer service and community
- Ensure the gym is welcoming, safe, and well-run
- Address member concerns and resolve issues quickly
Facilities & Safety
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety standards are met
- Oversee maintenance tasks and follow-up
- Step in to manage facilities when coverage is limited
Programs & Coordination
- Support youth programs, events, and classes
- Coordinate across teams to ensure smooth execution
- Help plan and execute community events
Marketing & Community
- Coordinate with the marketing agency on promotions and events
- Help execute in-gym messaging and initiatives
- Build relationships with members and the local community
Who This Role is For
This role is a great fit for someone who:
- Takes ownership and follows through
- Enjoys working with people and building a positive team environment
- Is reliable, steady, and willing to jump in wherever needed
- Is comfortable making decisions and handling issues as they arise
- Likes being active and present in a physical, customer-facing environment
You don’t need to be a climber, but you do need to care about people, consistency, and doing things the right way.
Requirements
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience in customer-facing roles (hospitality, retail, recreation, etc.)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Primarily daytime schedule, with occasional nights or weekends as needed to support the team or cover gaps
- First Aid / CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days)
Our Values
- Accept Responsibility: Own outcomes
- Reject Passivity: Take action
- Invest in Others: Support and develop people
- Lead Courageously: Step up and try new things
Compensation & Growth
This role includes performance-based bonus opportunities tied to gym performance and team success.
There is also opportunity for this role to grow in scope and compensation over time as the business grows.
Final Thought
This role is for someone who takes pride in running a great operation, shows up, supports their team, and makes the gym better every day.
