As a member of the Programs Management Team, the Programs Trainer at PRG will play a pivotal role in the success of our classes and programs, staff training, and overall gym operations. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, engagement, and connection, as well as introducing individuals to climbing and supporting their lifelong climbing journey in a healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable manner. Collaborating closely with the Programs Director and Gym Managers, the Programs Trainer will build and facilitate programs and practices aimed at supporting climbers in their athletic and personal development, as well as support desk and wall staff in professional development and training. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in program development and a love for introducing others to the sport of climbing, as well as experience in management and administrative responsibilities. An average week will include running one staff training, auditing one class per gym, admin time spent developing curriculum for programs and classes, admin time spent managing the private coaching/instruction system, teaching classes as needed, and instructing private lessons. This is not a youth programs or competition coaching position, though experience in those areas is valuable. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

– Assist with training, evaluating, and scheduling.

– Design, develop, and implement comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels. 

– Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.

– Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each participant to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.

– Actively respond to customer needs, membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback. This may include short desk shifts to help with coverage as needed.

– Work collaboratively with other staff and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the facility’s goals and objectives.

– Collaborate with the Gym Managers on what areas the athletes and classes are allowed to use during busy hours and events.

– Train staff on how to teach classes, and help maintain staff training logs 

– Audit both classes and staff periodically to ensure cohesive and factually accurate programing

– Provide private coaching/training for people of all abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels

– Success in this role includes mentorship of staff in order to grow the private coaching program

– Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS

– 18 or older

– Technical proficiency in climbing and climbing safety

– Experience as a coach, personal trainer, or instructor (2+ years)

– Management experience, including staff training, writing reviews, and monitoring job performance of other staff

– Experience with administrative tasks (scheduling, emails, outreach, etc)

– Strong sales experience 

– Climbing Wall Instructor Level 3 or equivalent cert or equivalent experience

– Experience working with youth and adults

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

– Marketing experience 

– Previous experience using RGP(Rock Gym Pro) 

– Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Certification or equivalent cert

– Personal Training experience/certifications

– Indoor and outdoor climbing experience 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

– This is a part-time hourly position, $21-25/hour DOE, plus sales incentive opportunities

WORKING CONDITIONS/SCHEDULE

–20-34 hours/week available. 20 hours guaranteed (training and back office admin), additional hours dependent on booking and teaching private lessons. 

– Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including evenings and weekends. 

– Most of our classes and programs take place in the evenings (4-9pm) or on weekends. This position will have opportunities to do staff training and private lessons drawing the day, but all auditing and class instruction will occur in the evenings on over weekends. This position will work closely with Programs Management to determine a best schedule.

– This is not a desk position; however occasional desk or wall monitor support may be necessary. The entire Programs team will be responsible for having an understanding of all gym policies and expectations, and while in the building may be asked to support desk staff when questions or incidents arise.
