February 25, 2015
Rock Spot Climbing, the premier indoor climbing gym company in the northeast, announces the opening of its fourth property and the first climbing gym in South Boston. The facility, located at 30 Old Colony Avenue, is set in the growing, vibrant South Boston neighborhood, bringing rock climbing infinitely closer to the heart of the city. Rock Spot South Boston opened on February 14, 2015, and a grand opening celebration planned for April 16-19. Grand opening events will include community events, discounts, and kicking it off, will be a large-scale bouldering competition on April 11.
Rock Spot Climbing also operates climbing gyms in Boston’s Hyde Park and in Lincoln and South Kingston, Rhode Island. The newest Boston Rock Spot (minutes from the Broadway stop on the Red Line of the T) allows easy access for students and city dwellers, indoor bike parking, and ample off-street car parking in its free 110 car lot.
All of Rock Spot’s gyms provide climbers state of the art climbing features, unparalleled indoor equipment, expert training, family programs, kids’ camps, student nights, corporate team-building events, and yoga, among other offerings. Unique to South Boston is a private party room and dedicated yoga and fitness space. The South Boston location specializes in bouldering (climbing lower to the ground without the use of ropes), popular due to the limited equipment and instruction required to get started in the sport. Its top rope walls include multiple auto belays allowing climbers to safely use the taller walls without a partner to hold the ropes.
“We are excited to be open, and to be a part of this incredible community” said Rock Spot co-owner, Nadav Minkin. “Rock Spot gyms have become a cultural and social haven for the communities we serve and the South Boston location will be no exception,” adds co-owner Lary Norin.
“We went all out with features, and design. Everyone, from the strong experienced climber, to the young child trying the sport for the first time, will be challenged and inspired by this gym. We worked really hard to create an exciting climbing gym for all ages, and all abilities,” said Rock Spot’s Head Route Setter and Director of Wall Design, Mike Dominguez.
Rock Spot Climbing in Lincoln, RI has been serving tens of thousands of customers since 1998 (formerly as RI Rock Gym of Pawtucket). Rock Spot Climbing opened in Hyde Park in 2009 and in South Kingstown, RI in 2013.
