Head Route Setter wanted for a new bouldering gym in north central Edmonton, AB.
Seeking an experienced and creative Head Route Setter to lead our setting team, shaping the culture and experience in our gym. This is a senior role and leadership position for someone who sees route setting not just as a job, but as a craft and vocation. This is a full time permanent opportunity.

Currently under construction. Opening August, 2026. A large, modern, community-centric bouldering gym emphasizing thoughtful design, accessibility and inclusivity. We prioritize quality routes, consistent resets, and an environment that challenges climbers across all styles and abilities.
Role Overview:
The Head Route Setter is responsible for leading the setting program and schedule, mentoring junior setters, and collaborating with management to continually elevate the climbing experience.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor, and coordinate the route setting team
• Plan and execute reset schedules
• Set a diverse range of styles, grades, and features
• Oversee stripping, hold washing, installation, and wall maintenance coordination
• Manage hold, volume, and tool inventory; advise on future acquisitions
• Maintain high safety standards and best practices at all times
• Collaborate on competitions, leagues, community events, and programming
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience as a senior or head route setter in a commercial climbing gym considered an asset
• Strong technical setting ability up to V8+; familiarity with power tools
• Proven leadership skills and ability to develop other setters
• Comfortable working at heights
• Organized, reliable, and capable of managing schedules and deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
