Job Description: Our Recreational Youth Coaches are responsible for facilitating incredible climbing experiences alongside Youth Event Staff, and Lead Recreational Coaches. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with kids, parents, and peers – leading the team when working camps and events, and taking a support role when working clubs. Recreational coaches must be able to manage time, maintain high energy, be adaptable, and feel comfortable providing and receiving feedback to/from peers and coaches. Our Spot Recreational Coaches are outgoing and energetic while also displaying a deep understanding of climbing techniques and culture.
Compensation: $18.29-$19.00, commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years climbing experience in relevant facets of rock climbing, specifically, indoor, outdoor, bouldering, and sport
- 1+ year of coaching experience
- Ability to breakdown, teach, and critique rope skills, including but not limited to belaying and knot tying
- Ability to breakdown, teach, and critique climbing technique to climbers of all abilities
- Proven skills in group management
- Proven leadership skills
- Strong communication skills: interpersonal, public relations, conflict resolution, motivational skills
Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to kids and parents - Ability to work weeknight evenings and weekends
Capable of standing on feet for extended periods of time - Must be top rope and lead belay certified
- Must pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
5.11/ V5 Redpoint Level, 5.10/V3 Onsight Level
Ability to read and understand 5.12/V6
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide participants with impactful, high-quality climbing experiences
- Effectively manage risk in an indoor climbing environment
- Be comfortable adapting the curriculum as needed to meet the needs of the participants
- Time management of programming
- Ability to give/receive feedback to/from peers and management
- Top rope and lead belaying
Setup, oversite and cleanup of various youth program activities - Peer leadership in programs including but not limited to: birthday parties, groups, events and camps
- Peer support in programs including but not limited to recreational climbing clubs
- Provide ongoing instruction on climbing risk management including falling, landing, and potential hazards around the gym
- Excellent parent communication and customer service
- Ability to manage your time clock appropriately
Must be able to independently follow written and verbal instructions - Must be able to cheerfully and professionally communicate with members of the public
Must be able to attend all scheduled or assigned shifts - Other duties as required
Able to work Saturdays and Sundays
