Position Title: Advanced Team Head Coach
Supervisor: Youth Programs Coordinator
Type of Position: Hourly, Part Time
Job Description: Sportrock is dedicated to our athletes and their long term climbing career. Our climbing coaches are eager to work with the next generation of climbers, and create a positive learning environment for all that climb with us. Coaches are dedicated to the climbing community and are ambassadors to the sport. Coaches must be available most weeknights and some weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cultivate an inviting and supportive atmosphere, and become an integral part of our climbing community.
Embrace customer experience as a cornerstone of your role, engaging with visitors in a lively and warm manner.
Actively interact with customers, going the extra mile to make their experiences unforgettable.
Stay up-to-date and informed on facility offerings found on the website, gym-management software, any recent communications, or elsewhere.
Effectively manage risk in an indoor climbing environment.
Uphold the gyms rules, procedures, and policies.
Ability to manage your time clock appropriately.
Create a healthy and positive growing environment for all youth athletes.
Collaborate growth and development opportunities for all the assistant and supporting coaches.
Build and modify curriculum with the youth teams head coach.
Efficiently run a practice, and onboard new climbers as necessary.
Effectively and appropriately communicate with youth athletes and parents.
Lead small groups in climbing related activities.
Give specific instructions to athletes and appropriate feedback.
Follow all coaching procedures outlined in Sportrock coaching policies guidelines.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in and around climbing gyms.
At least 3 years of personal climbing experience.
At least 2 years of experience working with youth athletes.
Ability to provide feedback on advanced technical and movement skills, including, but not limited to, beta reading and competition strategies.
Ability to write effective and adaptable training plans including strength and mobility exercises.
Ability to obtain a USAC level 2 coaching certification.
Proficiency with USAC competitions and rules.
Positive attitude and excitement for the sport.
Lead belay certified.
