    Job Summary

    The Assistant Manager of Setting will assist in managing the routesetting program for the Mountain View and Belmont locations. They are expected to deliver high quality routes and boulders for all skill levels, help lead the routesetters, and be accessible to members for guidance. Above all, the Assistant Manager of Setting will work together with the Assistant Director of Setting (ADS) or Head Setter and other departments to deliver the highest quality product to its customers.

    What you’ll be doing:

    Provide high quality climbing routes to a wide variety of skill levels and clientele in a timely manner.Set 3-4 days per week, meet full-time hourly requirements for benefits.
    Non-setting hours will be scheduled weekly as necessary. Additional non-setting hours may be requested if required.
    Assist in leading all aspects of the routesetting team, including but not limited to: training, professional development, setting schedule planning, mentorship, hold ordering, and competition setting.Includes interviewing and training new setters, as well as mentorship of current setters.
    Partner with the ADS or Head Setter to manage all routesetting equipment and general wall maintenance.Includes tool/equipment maintenance, inspection, ordering and inventory.
    Partner with the ADS or Head Setter to maintain distribution and rotation.Help with daily, weekly, and monthly route tracking; including updating KAYA.
    Keep up with current trends in the rock climbing community and continued professional development.
    Serve as the acting team leader when in small group settings or in the absence of the ADS or Head Setter.
    What success looks like:

    You’re reliably setting high quality skeletons, forerunning, and grading routes/problems effectively.
    You’re able to operate independently.
    You’ve demonstrated efficiency and creativity, with an openness to constructive feedback from fellow team members and the Movement community.
    You are able to provide supportive and constructive feedback on other’s routesetting.
    You have an understanding of Movement’s quality of product and aesthetic standards.
    You consistently meet production quota for routes and boulders on all terrain types.
    You are the go-to individual for your ADS or Head Setter.
    You are developing the skills required to become a successful Head Setter.
    You are a leader amongst the routesetting team.
    You provide direct mentorship and feedback to all routesetters.
    What you’ll bring with you

    Gotta have:

    Solid setting experience (4+ years).
    Demonstrated efficiency and reliability as a part of a setting team.
    Strong understanding of workplace safety expectations (Work at Height standards, etc.).
    Passion for the craft of routesetting.
    The ability to test and evaluate the accessibility, quality, and difficulty of climbs across a wide variety of styles.
    The ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
    Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to manage your own workflow while being a resource to others.
    Empathetic and effective communication skills – you understand how to consider diverse communication styles to build and maintain relationships.
    The ability to follow and promote safe practices at all times.
    Bonus points for:

    Lead climbing proficiency
    Ability to climb at least 5.12 and/or V6

    Additional Details

    This role is based in Mountain View – applicants will be assigned this primary location but may have opportunities to support other locations as agreed upon.
    This is a Full-time position.
    Starting pay at $33.05-$37.05/hour, flexibility available based on experience.

    Scheduled shift times may vary from week to week or month to month.
