    High Altitude Truckee is seeking a head coach to join the coaching team for youth and adult programs. The Head Coach plays a crucial role in collaborating with other head coaches, head route setter and management in managing and developing the gym’s climbing programs, coaching staff and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our youth teams. This position requires a deep passion for climbing, exceptional coaching skills and the ability to inspire, motivate and mentor climbers of all ages and abilities.

    Head Coach will assist in all programs, clinics, private lessons, groups/events, and the like. 

    Part Time- Minimum of 15 hours per week

    Must be available for team practices: Mon/Wed/Thurs from 4-6:30pm, occasional Tues/Fri 3:30-6:30, and additional weekday and weekend hours for events and clinics. 

    Candidates must enjoy working with children and adults and have indoor/outdoor climbing experience. All instructor levels from competitive, intermediate and beginner climbing and with youth leadership may apply. 

    Applicant must be a proficient boulder and sport climber to assist in weekly, evening advanced and competitive youth team practices. Help lead practices with coaches and additional head coaches.

    Head Coaches must be in attendance of offsite competitions and assist in administering team tryouts and promotions.

    Ability to follow and perform emergency rescue procedures CPR/AED, and Basic First Aid Certification Required, USA Climbing Coaches Certification

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Qualifications

    • Must have a demonstrated passion for climbing and fitness on a personal basis.
    • Preferably 3+ years working with youth in a coaching capacity and one year of management or supervisory experience in a climbing gym, fitness center, or related program.
    • Open availability to meet facility needs and special events as needed.
    • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills. Must work well as part of a team and be able to communicate professionally with athletes, coaches, parents, and gym leadership. 
    • Ability to embody High Altitude Fitness core values and manage desired cultures within youth teams.
    • Desire and ability to lead clinics, groups and events and private lessons. 

    Additional Experience:

    • Active membership with USAC as a Level 2 Coach
    • Understands USAC policies and procedures
    • Experience with USAC competitions 
    • Maintain a current CPR & First Aid certification
    • Ability to coach Mon/Wed/Thurs 4-6:30pm and additional hours for privates and events/groups, 1 day per week of office hours.
    • 4+ years of climbing experience
    • Ability to climb V6 and 5.12 preferred but not required
