    The Assistant Youth Programs Director will help develop educational and fun climbing-related activities for all youth programs. The overall goal is to teach youth the technical skills of climbing, but also grow them as individuals. To align with ARG’s goals, we encourage teamwork and supportive behavior towards peers and competitors, welcoming attitudes, teachable mentality, and general stoke for climbing.

    Job Responsibilities:
    Oversee the Head Coaches by providing leadership and support. This position will have direct involvement with employee reviews and scheduling. AYPD will work alongside the Head Coaches to create monthly lesson plans that align with ARG’s yearly calendars. Assist the Youth Programs Director with new or modified program development to fit the needs of the consumers and stay on par with industry standards.

    Be the first point of contact for communication for Youth Program questions. This role will not only monitor the email where the public directs questions to, but will also be the first point person for internal communications regarding kid management, space for youth programming, etc.

    AYPD will also be a Head Coach to be directly involved with the execution of programming. They should be visible on the floor and recognizable by both staff, children, and parents.

    Preferred skills and job expectations:

    • BA in social work, psychology, education, or youth development and/or 4+ years formal youth programming experience
      • Comfortable working with all age groups, specifically 5-14 years old
    • 2+ years previous management experience or group leadership
    • 2+ personal, formal competitive climbing experience
    • 2+ previous competitive rock climbing coaching experience
    • Comfortable using Rock Gym Pro. At least 2 years of previous experience is strongly preferred
    • Strong leadership and management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills – communication is a crucial part of this role
    • Certified Climbing Instructor through AMGA, CWA, or equivalent
    • CPR and First Aid certified
    • SafeSport certified
    • Available to work evenings and weekends, travel as needed
    • Ability to get creative and seek ideas from outside sources
    • Can manage high volume, fast paced environments with ease and comfort
    • Is able to work on a team with other leaders and provide input, support, or feedback as needed

    This job is offered at a salary of $48,850 – $55,000 per year commensurate with experience. Bi-annual reviews are conducted in March and September. Please include your resume, cover letter, and three references when applying. Alaska Rock Gym is an equal opportunity employer.
