Climbing gyms around the country spent the month of May raising money for the Children’s Treehouse Foundation during the Foundation’s CLIMB for Kids campaign. The Foundation runs a program called CLIMB, which stands for Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery. The art-based program helps kids learn to identify and talk about their thoughts and feelings related to their parent’s cancer, and helps improve communication within the family. “Partnering with climbing gyms was the perfect way to connect our cause with the generous climbing community,” said Gregor DeBruhl, the Foundation’s executive Director.
The top fundraiser was CLIMB Iowa which pulled in $1000 with a used gear sale and gym membership raffle. “Raffling off a gym membership is a no-cost option that yields a lot of interest with climbers. A $5.00 raffle ticket was an easy sell, and we had lots of people who bought multiple tickets. We hope to raise even more next year,” DeBruhl says, noting they’re already planning for next year’s event which they hope will be even bigger.
