Camp Fernwood, a residential summer camp in Maine, is seeking highly motivated instructors to teach at our climbing program during the summer of 2025! (June 14 to August 8).
At Fernwood, they will have the incredible opportunity to teach girls ages 8-15 with diverse levels of experience. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of 150 staff members from around the globe, participating in an engaging seven-week program designed exclusively for girls. Each day will be filled with a variety of exciting activities, making this a truly enriching experience!
This is a fantastic chance to gain hands-on experience, develop your skills, and inspire creativity in young campers. As a member of the climbing program at Camp Fernwood, you will play an essential role in guiding and supporting campers as they explore the exciting world of climbing. You will lead instructional sessions that cover essential techniques, safety practices, and equipment use, ensuring that each camper gains confidence and skills on the climbing wall. You will provide personalized feedback and encouragement, helping campers set and achieve their individual climbing goals. You will also facilitate group climbs and team-building activities, fostering camaraderie and communication among participants. Emphasizing safety at all times, staff will ensure that all campers are aware of proper belaying techniques and equipment handling.
Our climbing program consists of:
- Artificial Wall Climbing: Campers can hone their climbing skills on our state-of-the-art artificial climbing wall, featuring various routes and difficulty levels. They receive instruction on techniques such as foot placement, grip, and movement, with experienced instructors providing guidance and encouragement to help each camper progress.
- Rope Course: Our high ropes course offers an exciting opportunity for campers to navigate a series of suspended challenges high above the ground. This element emphasizes balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills, while also promoting trust and communication among participants. Instructors ensure safety protocols are followed, allowing campers to push their limits in a secure environment.
- Giant Swing: For those seeking an adrenaline rush, the giant swing provides an exhilarating experience as campers are harnessed and launched high into the air. This thrilling activity encourages campers to overcome fears and embrace challenges, all while having fun with friends. Instructors are on hand to guide campers through the experience, ensuring safety and support throughout.
