About Us

At Coastal Climbing we’re passionate about climbing and creating a welcoming environment for climbers of all skill levels. Our small bouldering gym is a community-driven space where creativity, inclusivity, and progression thrive. We have a 7000 sf facility and 3500 ft of bouldering terrain with 3 training boards.  We are looking for an individual to help craft the climbing experience for our members and to set weekly routes weekly. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced head route setter to take over the lead routesetting role from the owners who have been building the setting program in the facility over the last 13 years.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and Forerunning: Design, set, and test boulder problems that cater to a variety of skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Ensure climbs are safe, fun, and offer diverse styles and movement. Must be able to climb up to v10 outdoors.
  • Collaboration: Work and plan with the team to maintain a consistent and engaging setting schedule. Organize volunteers and part time setters weekly to maintain a diverse array of climbs in the facility. Incorporate feedback from members to continuously improve the climbing experience. Maintain consistent communication with the owners for any issues with employees, safety, needs, or general concerns.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect, clean, and maintain holds, wall surfaces, training boards, and workout equipment.  Organize back of the house items and setting tools to ensure safety and quality.
  • Creativity: Bring fresh ideas to the walls by integrating unique movement patterns, themes, in both traditional style routes and competition-style routes. Always ensuring healthy distribution routes and boulders appropriate for our gym membership at any given time.
  • Community Engagement: Be approachable and open to feedback from members about the climbing experience. Plan, run and facilitate 3 non-usac competitions/events per year.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of commercial setting experience – extensive outside actual rock climbing preferred.
  • Climbing Ability: Consistently climb at v10 level and have the stamina to climb all routes within a designated reset or competition. Ability to set efficient and quickly while maintaining quality
  • Attention to Detail: Knowledge of proper safety practices related to routesetting and climbing gym operations. Perform regular checks for safety procedures and spot unsafe climbs when they arise.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and carry holds, operate power tools, and work at heights using ladders or lifts. Must be able to carry 50+ lb buckets.
  • Teamwork: Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with the gym owners, staff and members. Ability and willingness to lead by example and be supportive of the setting crew. Must have a desire to be actively involved in the Coastal community
  • Commitment: Willing to sign a minimum 2 year employment contract
