Job Title: Routesetter
Reports to: Head Routesetter
Location: Alta Climbing and Fitness – Gilbert / Alta Boulders – Chandler
Alta is looking for an experienced, positive Routesetter to come and join our Routesetting Team! This is a Full-Time position, setting up to 4 days a week. The ideal candidate is passionate in what they do and can provide Routesetting support while working for a fast-growing company. Alta Routesetters will represent and embody the values and ideals within the Alta Routesetting Program and understand that their primary responsibility is to provide a high-quality, enjoyable experience for our members and guests of all abilities and backgrounds. Alta Routesetters will make sure all the routes are SCALED for our members (Safety, Consistency, Accessibility, Learnability, Equitability, and Diversity).
What You’ll Do:
- Lead by example–motivate, inspire, and support the Routesetting Team;
- Quickly and Efficiently set both Rope Routes and Boulders from 5.6 and V0 up to 5.13 and V10 or harder.
- Responsible for maintaining grade and style consistency of routes and boulders between both locations;
- Work closely with the Routesetting team to set, forerun, and make changes to ensure that all climbs meet Alta quality and safety standards;
- Maintain a clean and organized professional work environment throughout the day;
- Follow workplace safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment and fall protection at all times;
- Strip, Wash and Organize Holds. Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the Setting Shop;
- Perform General Maintenance including but not limited to routine inspections of gear, equipment, hardware, quickdraws, anchors, and auto belays;
- Set for competitions and special events. Be willing to work overtime when necessary;
- Be able to commute between gyms;
- Be a positive role model for the community. Engage with members and pass along your passion and knowledge of climbing;

Requirements
Experience You Bring:
- 2+ years of commercial route setting experience preferred
- Ability to forerun v6 / 5.12a
- Experience setting for USAC Youth Competitors;
- Be able to lift heavy loads of 50 pounds or more and complete strenuous physical labor;
- Have a strong understanding of climbing movement and technique.
- CPR/AED & First Aid Certification required within 90 days of hire.
Your Time Commitment:
- 20-35 hours per week;
- Attend monthly staff meetings;
- Participate in regularly scheduled reviews
