USA Climbing is the National Governing Body for the sport of competition climbing in the United States. Our mission is to support the well-being, development, and competitive excellence of our athletes as we advance the accessibility and growth of the climbing community nationwide. We are a small, but highly committed team dedicated to advancing the sport and supporting the athletes in achieving their best. USA Climbing conducts programs and events for our Youth, Collegiate, Para, and elite series.

Position Summary
The National Team Manager is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the administrative, logistical, and operational aspects of USA Climbing’s National Teams (Elite, Para, Collegiate, and Youth), with special emphasis on the Elite and Para National Teams. This individual ensures that athletes, coaches, and staff have the resources, support, and guidance necessary to excel at the highest levels of competition. The role will also contribute to advancing the sport of competition climbing on both domestic and international stages, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Team Administration and Athlete Support

  • Manage all aspects of the US Team’s participation in international competitions, including registration, travel planning, on-site support, athlete reimbursements, etc.
  • Coordinate team selection processes, including managing applications, tryouts, and communications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date rosters for National Teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for National Team athletes, parents, and coaches.
  • Facilitate communication between athletes and USA Climbing High Performance staff.
  • Provide guidance and resources related to training, competition schedules, and personal development.
  • Address and resolve athlete concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and other developmental activities to enhance athlete and coach performance.
  • Plan and oversee logistics for National Team events, including training camps, competitions, and international travel.
  • Travel with and manage the US Team at selected IFSC World Cups, World Championships, Pan American Games, and Olympic Games.
  • Collaborate with event organizers, venues, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless execution.

Budget and Administration

  • Develop and manage budgets for National Team activities in collaboration with the VP of Sport.
  • Secure necessary resources, including sponsorships and partnerships, to support team initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to USA Climbing policies, including SafeSport and anti-doping regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of team activities, expenditures, and outcomes.
  • Supervise and manage the training center, including opening and closing duties along with any additional support staff.
  • Communicate effectively with US Team members, parents, and High-Performance staff regarding season schedules, competitions, and logistical details.
  • Maintain updated content for USA Climbing’s Team USA webpage.
  • Manage and oversee the design, ordering, and distribution of the US Team kit to all members.
  • Act as a liaison between National Teams and USA Climbing leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Represent USA Climbing at relevant meetings, events, and conferences.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in team management, sports administration, or a similar role
  • Familiarity with IFSC and USA Climbing rulebooks
  • International travel experience preferred
  • Familiarity with climbing as a sport is preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools
  • Leadership and team-building capabilities
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to dynamic environments
  • Collaborative approach to achieve shared goals
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven with an understanding of when flexibility is appropriate
  • Effectively handle multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks with precision
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team

Work Environment

  • This position is Salt Lake City-based.
  • Physical ability to assist with climbing equipment, adaptive setups, and athlete support when needed.

Compensation / Other

  • Annual salary of $50,000-60,000, commensurate with experience
