Title: Head Route Setter of Central Rock Gym Fort Meyers, FL
Reports to: Chief Setting Officer/General Manager
Summary:
As a Head Route Setter, you will manage the route setting staff, set and forerun routes, maintain hold inventory, make recommendations for ongoing hold and equipment purchases and work in collaboration with Chief Route Setting Officer and managers to provide the highest quality experience for our climbing community.
Responsibilities:
• Lead/supervise route setting, stripping, cleaning, and organizing inventory of holds.
• Ensure appropriate roped routes and boulder problems including consistency, quantity and quality, correcting grades as needed.
• Set and forerun routes up to 5.13a and problems up to V7.
• Assist in hiring, scheduling, and coordinating with Assistant Route Setters.
• Work with Chief Route Setting Officer to manage and maintain seamless setting schedule.
• Address gym maintenance including fixing spinners, inspecting, and maintaining auto belays, hang tags for grades of previously set routes/problems, etc.
• Assist in competitions.
• Follow appropriate safety guidelines and use fall safety equipment when necessary.
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of climbing industry trends.
• Other duties as required.
Requirements:
• Flexible schedule – ability to work early mornings and afternoons.
• 2+ years climbing and route setting experience required.
• USAC setting certification preferred.
• Friendly, approachable, and energetic personality.
• Must be comfortable heights of 40+ feet and able to work on ropes, ladders, and lifts.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to operate power tools including but not limited to, impact drivers and angle grinders.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated to work, self-directed and independent as well as a Team Player.
