Head Route Setter at High Point Climbing And Fitness: Orlando
High Point Climbing And Fitness is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Route Setter to lead the route setting team at our newest and largest facility in Orlando, Florida, opening in April 2025. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop and execute the route setting program for a flagship facility, ensuring consistent quality, safety, and innovation from the ground up.
The Head Route Setter is a leadership role requiring strong technical skills, a commitment to customer experience, and team management expertise. This position directly reports to the General Manager but involves collaboration with High Point’s Management Team and other Head Route Setters across multiple locations.
The position is ready to be filled as soon as feasible.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management
- Oversee the route setting program, ensuring alignment with High Point’s standards for quality, grading consistency, and customer experience.
- Hire, train, and mentor a new team of route setters, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Act as a leader within the facility, interacting with members and guests to build community and gather feedback on route setting.
- Provide ongoing training to team members, focusing on professional development and safety protocols.
- Maintain open communication with the General Manager and other department leads to meet the facility’s needs.
Administrative Duties
- Plan, schedule, and manage daily route setting activities, including stripping holds, washing holds, and route setting.
- Manage the route setting budget, including payroll, hold orders, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with High Point’s safety standards and policies for work-at-height practices.
- Coordinate with the General Manager and Head Coach to implement feedback and adjust routes to accommodate events, competitions, and programming needs.
- Participate in facility and company-wide meetings, contributing to strategic planning.
Facility Management
- Organize and maintain route setting inventory, workspaces, and equipment.
- Oversee the procurement of holds, volumes, and tools, ensuring timely delivery for the grand opening and beyond.
- Perform maintenance tasks, including wall cleaning, t-nut replacement, and addressing member-reported issues such as spinners or damaged holds.
- Support the overall facility’s maintenance needs and coordinate with the General Manager on projects affecting gym operations.
Requirements and Physical Demands:
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of commercial routesetting experience.
- Proven management experience in routesetting or a related field.
- Ability to set and forerun at minimum V8 boulders and 5.13 routes.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Google Drive.
- USA Climbing Level 2 or higher certification preferred.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to execute High Point’s vision and standards.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, with the ability to travel as needed.
Physical Demands
- Comfortable working at height and moving up and down climbing walls.
- Able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, loud environment with uneven surfaces.
- Able to stand, kneel, balance, push, and pull objects as needed.
