Crux Climbing Center’s competitive team is a youth program that unifies Austin climbers. We see this youth program as an extension of Crux’s culture where the youth in Austin will be able to gather as a community to learn from and teach one another.
In this position, you would have 40 hours of work each week. This position will split hours between our 3 Crux locations based in South Austin, Central Austin and Pflugerville (just northeast of Austin).
Responsibilities Include:
- Attending 75% of the practices each quarter
- Developing a training program and curriculum for practices to be distributed to the coaches, Head of Programs, and COO
- Update the Team Crux webpage as needed for information on practices and new coaches
- Send out monthly newsletters through Mailchimp to parents informing them of outside trips, USAC comps and updates, practice updates, holidays, coach updates, and other relevant information
- Make sure each Team Crux member has a practice shirt, jersey, and pack within the first two weeks of them joining the team.
- Assist Head of Programs with gathering ordering information for sponsor deals
- Organize at least two outside trips a year – one for each discipline
- Attend all USA Climbing Regional, Divisional, and National competitions if a Team Crux athlete is attending or ensuring that the assistant head coach is attending
- Holding meetings with the other coaches a minimum of once per quarter
Requirements
- Must have a passion for climbing on a personal basis and have experience climbing for over 5 years
- Preferably two-five years working with youth in a coaching or camp counselor capacity and one-two years of experience coaching specifically for climbing
- Ability to communicate well with youth and adults and maintain a strong presence with the team.
- Self motivated, driven and creative
- Administrative duties such as planning events/trips, communicating with coaches, parents and athletes.
- Maintain close communication with the Programs Manager.
- Active USAC Level 2 Coach membership (Crux will pay for it)
- Active SafeSport certs (Crux will pay for it)
- Maintain CPR & First Aid (Crux will pay for it)
- Active CWI certification (Crux will pay for it)
Benefits
- This position will be compensated at the rate of $22 per hour for the first 3 months. An evaluation at 3 months will determine an increase rate with 40 hours each week.
- Any fuel/ lodging costs for travel will be compensated in full (when over 75 miles away) when receipts are provided.
