Director of Route Setting

Work closely with the General Manager and the management team to ensure Climb Iowa’s core values are upheld daily.  Be the leader in all routes/boulders that are set at each gym.  Perform maintenance checks at each gym and maintain accurate logs.

Work to provide a fantastic experience for all customers that visit Climb Iowa.  Develop, educate, and execute a steady line of communication between management, staff, and customers to ensure the very best experience for all.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruit, interview, train, and supervise staff that participate in route setting and maintenance
Route setting
Maintain high route setting quality
Monitor and enforce all route setting risk mitigation systems
Manage route setter schedule between both locations
Monitor customer feedback to always improve our route setting program
Work with head coach for team setting needs
With the General Manager, create a yearly budget for new climbing hold purchases and maintenance items
Gym maintenance
Maintain all wall and setting equipment for each gym
Coordinate work at height training for necessary staff
Perform/Coordinate and document all facility maintenance
Communicate all maintenance needs to the General Manager
·         Communicate frequently with Gym Managers about specific needs for each gym

·         With management team, assistant in planning events (member only, comps, fundraisers, etc.)

o   Lead the development and execution of events as determined by General Manager

Assist management team as needed with additional duties/responsibilities
Be emergency on-call manager when needed
·         Maintain appropriate and timely response with emails and in-person follow-up

·         Enforce Climb Iowa’s policies and recommend changes

·         Actively contribute during management meetings regarding marketing, gym policies, and operation

·         Serve as an ambassador of the Climb Iowa experience, brand, and values

·         Be willing to step in when necessary (front counter, instruction, etc.)

Availability/Hours:

This is a full-time position. Expect to spend time at both Climb Iowa locations each week. Setting days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am – 5pm. Schedule for other duties is flexible.

Qualifications:

·         Strong climbing skills (fore run 5.12+)

·         At least two years of prior route setting experience

·         Competition setting experience is a plus

·         USAC certification recommended

·         Strong communication skills and detail orientated organizational skills.

·         Enthusiastic attitude towards climbing and our community.

·         Ability to act with tact and diplomacy to a varied audience.

·         Desire to grow as a career route setter

·         Ability to lift 50 pounds
