Position: High Performance and Performance Head Coach
Salary: Hourly rate ranges from:
Coaching hours: $25- $30 / hour
Administrative hours: $22 / hour
Hours: average 18 hrs/ week (may fluctuate based on competitions). Roughly broken down into
12 coaching hours and 6 administrative hours / week
– Option to work / coach more at the developmental level
– Competition coaching and pay are expected and over and above regular work pay /
administrative hours

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and driven Head Coach to lead our high-
performance climbing team. The successful candidate will be replacing Regan Kennedy, former
head coach. This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the most talented youth and
adult climbers in the region, fostering their growth in competitive climbing through expert
coaching, strategic planning, and a commitment to excellence. If you’re a motivated leader with

The successful candidate will be required to / responsible for:
1- Planning the training year / cycles / competitions for the high-performance youth team
at bolder climbing (local, provincial, national and international events) (must be familiar
with CEC, NACS and IFSC schedules
2- Responsible for organizing and running practices appropriate for high performance
athletes for bouldering and sport climbing
a. Run practices with bouldering focus
b. Run practices with lead focus
c. Collaborate on practices with speed focus
d. Create and execute / run mental health seminars for team
3- Travel to competition and professional development opportunities as well as between
gyms is required
a. A drivers licence and car is a strong asset for this position
4- Willingness to work toward a national coaching certification through CEC and NCCP
5- Coach minimum 12 hours per week with a strong focus on the youth high performance
competition programming and coaching for both bouldering and lead
a. Option / ability to coach more at a developmental level
b. Almost all coaching is evening and weekends
6- Collaborate with the program coordinator on the development and growth of programs
(youth and adult), hire and manage a coaching staff for programs, and instruct
7- Collaborating with setting team to prepare terrain for youth team training
8- Contribute new modes of training and prep for competitions
9- Strong administrative skills to organize staff, parents, athletes and general programming
10- Reconcile youth team dues and coaching fees monthly
a. Maintain a budget for the season
11- Weekly emails to athletes / parents and coaches
12- Foster a collaborative working environment / host coaching team meetings monthly
a. Provide coaching staff training when required
13- Additional tasks may evolve and be requested by ownership
14- Willingness to work in both Bolder Climbing locations and sister facilities (WIP and
Gneiss)
Term
• This is an ongoing position
• 3-month probationary period with review before moving forward
Qualifications and Preferred Experience
Applicants should have:
• Demonstrate a general passion for climbing and fitness
• Minimum 2 years coaching experience and high-performance level and have experience
in all three disciplines of climbing: bouldering, lead and speed
• A varied coaching experience (youth programing, adult programing, clinics and courses
for general public)
• Strength training background
• Experience managing a small team
• Open availability to meet Bolder Climbing Program needs and flexibility to work
weekends and/or offsite (in other facilities) (for practices, competitions, courses, clinics,
coaching or professional development)
• The ability to work independently and balance competing priorities with ease and
flexibility
• Strong organization skills, excellent written and oral interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with Rock Climbing platforms such as Approach, Kilter Board, moon Board,
Stoked, and Grasshopper Board
• Willingness to collect and store physical fitness data from athletes
• Access to a mobile device and willingness to collaborate with management on social
media goals
• Enthusiasm to be part of the bolder climbing team
• Coaching certifications: Valid First Aid and CPR, certifications related to climbing
(respect in sport training, making ethical decisions, etc..), criminal record check no older
than one year
Preferred applicants will have:
• Experience as a competitive climber
• Experience climbing outdoors• Interest in volunteering for Alberta Climbing Association
• Interest in their professional growth as a coach within Canada and/or internationally
Additional Information
Bolder Climbing employees are given a free membership. Hourly wage will change depending
on task. Coaching wage versus prepping wage differs and will be discussed upon interview. This
position would include a $500 health spending account and discount for services at Bolder
Health and Performance (to be introduced after 3-month review / probationary period).
