Salary: $44,000-$54,000 with potential for performance-based bonuses. Pay is commensurate with experience
Job Description:
Sportrock Climbing Centers is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our leadership team. The Assistant Director directly aids the Facility Director in the management of all operations at Sportrock Rio. This includes staff management, facility maintenance, enforcement of company policies, and many other responsibilities necessary for the continual improvement of day-to-day operations.
This position is integral to helping further grow and lead the amazing community we have established in our almost 30 years in business. This position is a ‘launchpad position’ meaning that it will prepare you for future growth and development in the company. A background in facility operations/management is a plus, along with a strong work ethic, passion for leading others and customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Gym Director as well as other members of the senior leadership team with continual improvement and development of procedures and policies.
Maintain and enforce all policies and procedures. - Assist with staffing, to include interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training and scheduling.
- Ensure that operational decisions are made with the primary intention to grow the gyms membership base.
- Maintain day-to-day facility and maintenance needs. Including, but not limited to:
- Maintaining stock counts of supplies and ordering more as needed
- Maintaining and documenting safety checks on all rental equipment, including top ropes, lead ropes, harnesses, belay devices, etc.
- Manage adult group events such as corporate events, facility rentals, and all private adult events.
- Manage our Fitness and Yoga programs, this includes hiring and onboarding instructors, managing the class schedule, and regularly auditing classes to ensure consistent quality.
- Foster and maintain a positive work culture via employee recognition initiatives and team building activities.
- Maintain consistent communication with all facility-level stakeholders (including but not limited to Youth Programs Coordinator, Events and Programs Coordinator, and Customer Experience Coordinator) to ensure a high level of personal knowledge of our offerings, as well as an ability to utilize your bandwidth to support the team as needed.
- Ensure that the customer experience is the highest in the industry.
- Cultivate an inviting and supportive atmosphere, and become an integral part of our climbing community.
- Greet every customer who walks through the doors with eye contact, a smile, and a verbal acknowledgment.
- Embrace customer experience as a cornerstone of your role, engaging with visitors in a lively and warm manner.
- Actively interact with customers, going the extra mile to make their experiences unforgettable.
- Be present at the facility during all working hours, which are flexible, but must include at least 1 weekend day each week.
- Stay up-to-date and informed on facility offerings found on the website, gym-management software, any recent communications, or elsewhere.
- Effectively manage risk in an indoor climbing environment.
- Uphold the gyms rules, procedures, and policies.
- Ability to manage your time clock appropriately

Qualifications:
- 1-2 years leadership and management experience preferred
- Customer service experience
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Extremely self-motivated and able to exceed high expectations and standards

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Rock climbing experience or willingness to learn
